Facial volume consultations
The shape of the face changes over time as bone, fat and skin change. A consultation with one of our doctors looks at your whole face, not one feature, so any plan keeps your proportions in balance and suits you.
All procedures carry risks and results vary. Read about recovery and risks below.

About changes in facial volume
With age, the bones of the face slowly change shape, fat pads shift and thin, and skin loses some of its elasticity. These changes can affect the temples, cheeks, under the eyes, lips, chin and jawline, and they happen at different rates in different people.
Weight change, sun exposure, genetics and general health all play a part. Because the areas of the face affect each other, a good assessment looks at overall balance and proportion rather than treating one area on its own.
Your consultation
- iA review of your medical history, medicines and any previous cosmetic treatments
- iiAn assessment of your facial structure, proportions and skin quality, from the front and side
- iiiA conversation about your goals and what is realistic for your face
- ivAn explanation of the options that may suit you, including not having treatment
- vClear information on what’s involved, recovery, risks and costs
- viTime to think it over, and a second appointment if you’d like one before deciding
Depending on your assessment, treatment may or may not be recommended.

Learn moreSkin laxity treatments

Referral
Some concerns are better treated by a surgeon, and your doctor will tell you if that’s the case.
Recovery and risks
Every option carries risks, and your doctor will explain them in detail before you decide.
Recovery
Depends on the option recommended, if any. Your doctor will tell you how long swelling or bruising may last and when you can return to normal activities.
Recovery varies from person to person.
Possible risks
Treatments in this area can cause bruising, swelling, tenderness, asymmetry, lumps, infection, and rarely serious complications such as damage to blood vessels, which can affect the skin or, very rarely, vision. Your doctor will explain the risks that apply to you, how they’re reduced, and what happens if a complication occurs.

Important information. All procedures carry risks. Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed. Take time to consider your decision. You may wish to seek a second opinion.
