Our story

Doctor-led cosmetic medicine, since 2002

Concept Cosmetic Medicine began as a small clinic in Bowral. More than 20 years on, we care for patients in Drummoyne, Newcastle and Bowral, with the same focus we started with: the patient, not the trend.

How it started

From Bowral to Drummoyne

Concept Cosmetic Medicine began as a small clinic in Bowral, co-founded by Helen Smethurst, at a time when cosmetic medicine was a small and little-understood field.

In 2005, Helen went on to open our flagship clinic on Victoria Road, Drummoyne. It has eight treatment rooms and a dedicated procedure suite, where our doctors carry out more involved procedures.

From the first day, the guiding idea was simple: build trust, do the right thing, and create a place where people feel safe, supported and properly informed. That idea has carried the clinic through more than two decades of change in medicine, in regulation and in the world around us.

Many of our doctors and staff have been with us for most of that time, and many of our patients have too.

Helen has been a registered nurse for more than 30 years, many of them as a Senior Nurse Manager in a large Sydney teaching hospital.

That hospital background shapes how the clinic runs today: careful assessment, clear information, and a strong focus on safety in every room.

Helen is passionate about cosmetic medicine and the care that goes into it. She believes every patient should feel comfortable, well informed and never rushed, and that how you are looked after matters as much as the treatment itself.

What we believe

The values we started with

The treatments have changed over the years. The way we look after people hasn’t.

i

Patient-first care

Your health, history and goals come before any treatment, including whether treatment is right for you at all.

ii

Education over hype

We explain what a treatment involves, how long recovery takes, the risks and the costs, in plain language.

iii

Care and safety first

Treatments are performed by doctors and registered nurses with training and experience in cosmetic medicine.

iv

Warmth and integrity

Unhurried consultations, honest advice and long-term relationships with the people we care for.

How we work

It starts with a consultation

Every plan starts with an unhurried, one-on-one consultation with an experienced practitioner.

Your practitioner will assess your skin and your medical history, talk through your concerns and goals, and explain your options: what each involves, the expected recovery, possible side effects and complications, and the cost. We’ll also talk about alternatives, including not having treatment.

We aim for natural-looking results that suit you. Results vary from person to person, and we’ll be honest about what is realistic for you.

Important information. All procedures carry risks. Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed. Before any treatment you'll have a consultation with a registered practitioner, who will explain the expected benefits, recovery time, possible side effects and complications, costs, and alternatives, including not having treatment. Take time to consider your decision. You may wish to seek a second opinion.
