How to choose a cosmetic clinic

Cosmetic procedures are medical procedures. Taking time to choose the right clinic is one of the most important decisions you’ll make.

1. Check who will treat you

Ask who will assess and treat you, and what their qualifications are. Doctors and nurses in Australia must be registered with AHPRA, and you can check anyone’s registration on AHPRA’s public register. Any treatment involving a prescription medicine needs a consultation with a doctor or other prescriber first.

2. Expect a proper consultation

A good consultation is unhurried. It covers your medical history, your concerns and goals, the options (including not having treatment), the likely recovery, the risks and the full cost. Be cautious if you feel pushed to book on the day.

3. Look for honest information

Clear information about risks and recovery is a good sign. Be wary of promises of guaranteed results, “no downtime” claims or heavy discounting.

4. Ask about safety and aftercare

Ask how equipment is maintained, how infection control is handled, and who you can contact if you have a concern after treatment, including after hours.

5. Take your time

You should leave a consultation with enough information to decide in your own time. It’s always reasonable to seek a second opinion.

Questions to ask

Who will treat me, and what is their registration? What are the risks for me? What is the recovery? What will it cost in total? What happens if I’m unhappy or have a complication?

Book a consultation

Every treatment at Concept Cosmetic Medicine starts with an unhurried, one-on-one consultation with an experienced practitioner. You’ll talk through your concerns and goals, and leave with a clear plan built around your skin, with recovery, risks and costs explained, so you can decide with confidence.

Important information. All procedures carry risks. Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed. Before any treatment you’ll have a consultation with a registered practitioner, who will explain the expected benefits, recovery time, possible side effects and complications, costs, and alternatives, including not having treatment. Take time to consider your decision. You may wish to seek a second opinion.
